The Jo Anne Moore Renaissance High School Fund, in collaboration with The Raise, has committed $100,000 to the University of Michigan’s Center for Educational Outreach. Beginning in the 2024/2025 school year, the donation has been used to:
- Support a full-time college admissions advisor at Renaissance High School. Here’s a video from Dominqua Burrage, the current Michigan College Advising Corp. (MCAC) Adviser who has been working at RHS since the Summer of 2024.
- Provide financial support to RHS students who have been admitted to the University of Michigan.
- Fund unique visits by RHS juniors and sophomores to the University of Michigan, allowing them to meet a diverse team of faculty, staff and students. Attached are a few pics visit to
Whether you are a Renaissance alum, Michigan alum, product of the Detroit Public School system, a Detroiter, a friend or family, I hope that you will support this worthy cause. Even if it’s just one dollar!

Students who participated in college preparatory programs had this to share about their experiences:
- “Meeting the faculty and talking to the current students was very insightful!” - Arriana
- “I enjoyed talking to the faculty about their college experiences.” - Aniyah
- “Honestly, I think that today was quite great and made a good impact on me.” - Alexander
- “I am super excited to come (to U-M), grow and learn! I Can’t wait to connect more! - Sherydan
- “This was one of my favorite events for sure!” - Current U-M Student leader
Renaissance High School is located in Detroit Michigan and has over 1,150 students between grades 9-12. The Jo Anne Moore Renaissance High School Fund was founded in loving memory of my mother, Jo Anne Moore, an esteemed alumna of Talladega College (BA in English) and Clark Atlanta University (MS in Library Science), and an educator in the Detroit Public School system for over 25 years (she was a librarian at Dossin Elementary, Durfee Middle School and Beaubien Middle School). My mother also worked for many years at Mary Grove College as a librarian. Both my sister, Camille Moore-Barnett (‘87), and I (’89) proudly graduated from Renaissance High School.
GO BLUE!
