About

Harnessing the power of teaching to create a more just society.

Teaching is powerful. TeachingWorks partners with teachers and teacher educators to develop teaching practice so that all young people thrive

When we founded TeachingWorks in 2012, we wanted to contribute to improving the quality of teacher preparation on a broader scale. We set out to address the unjust pattern that students of color and students living in poverty were far more likely to have underprepared teachers. We were committed to strengthening the quality of beginning teaching to serve these communities.

Recognizing the need for bold, equity-focused teaching, TeachingWorks has evolved to explicitly support teachers and teacher educators to disrupt persistent patterns of injustice through strong teacher preparation and professional learning. We focus on the intersection of subject matter, teaching practices, and the creation of classroom environments where children flourish.

A young girl with braided hair and colorful beads looks thoughtfully at a whiteboard displaying two math posters. The left poster shows a number line from 0 to 1 with a red arrow pointing to a circled 5/6. The right poster, titled "Questions for Naming a Fraction," lists a six-step process for identifying and naming fractions.

Our mission is to ensure that teachers are prepared and supported to help all young people thrive.

We partner with teacher preparation programs and PK–12 districts to help teachers prioritize their students’ thriving by building relationships, actively teaching complex content, and creating classroom communities to advance justice. Skillful teaching plays a powerful role in contributing to building a more just and equitable society.

We envision a society in which teaching is valued and teachers are prepared and supported so that all young people thrive. But this bold vision requires collective work—and we need you!

A gift to TeachingWorks will support our world-class team as we offer:

Professional Learning Opportunities: TeachingWorks creates programs and workshops that intertwine a deliberate focus on teaching practice, academic subject matter, and equity for new and practicing teachers.

Research-based Resources: TeachingWorks develops and shares resources, including curriculum materials, for supporting new and practicing teachers.

Customized Support: TeachingWorks partners with educators in PK–12 schools and teacher preparation programs to support specific professional learning needs. Our menu of customizable partnerships can take shape at the classroom, school, district, or program level.

Join us in harnessing the power of teaching to create a more just society!
