CSP STUDENT SUPPORT FUND - 301328
SUMMER BRIDGE SCHOLARS SCHOLARSHIP FUND ‑ 372493
Since 1983, the Comprehensive Studies Program (CSP) has expanded access to a University of Michigan education by providing academically rigorous and holistically supportive environments rooted in care, belonging, and high expectations. Built through the advocacy and leadership of Black and African American students, especially Black women, the program has evolved as the University has broadened access to first-generation, low-income, rural, and other underrepresented students, strengthening CSP’s impact while remaining grounded in the values and communities that made it possible.
Today, CSP serves students from a wide range of lived experiences, historically underrepresented at the University, including first-generation college students, graduates of under-resourced or smaller high schools, and high-achieving scholars from across Michigan and beyond. Through a combination of academic instruction, advising, mentoring, and community-based support, CSP helps students develop confidence, resilience, leadership, and a deep sense of belonging.
As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Summer Bridge Program, CSP is honoring its legacy while investing boldly in the future. Through this year’s Giving Blueday campaign, donors may support one or both of two critical funds that address different points in the student journey. The Summer Bridge Scholars Scholarship Fund has consistently supported Summer Bridge students. This year, we are building on that legacy with a bold goal: to fully fund 50 Summer Bridge scholars in honor of the program’s 50th anniversary, while continuing to support additional students through the program. The CSP Student Support Fund provides flexible financial assistance throughout a student’s undergraduate career, helping reduce or replace qualifying student loans and address unexpected financial challenges that can disrupt academic progress.
Donor generosity allows CSP to:
- Foster a supportive learning community that empowers students to take ownership of their education and lead in and beyond the University
- Support the recruitment, matriculation, and persistence of students from historically marginalized and underrepresented communities
- Advance CSP’s role as a national model for inclusive, equitable, and student-centered education
- Bridge opportunity gaps by providing comprehensive academic and financial support to more than 3,000 University of Michigan students
A gift to either fund is an investment in student potential, academic excellence, and a more equitable future at the University of Michigan. Together, these funds honor the generations of students whose courage and leadership made programs like CSP possible, while ensuring that future students can access opportunity, belong fully, and thrive without financial barriers.
