CREES ENDOWMENT - 794686

The Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (CREES) is one of the nation's leading institutes for interdisciplinary research and training on Russia, Central and Eastern Europe, and Eurasia. First designated as a Slavic Language and Area Center in 1959, CREES has over 70 outstanding affiliated faculty area specialists and visiting scholars who offer more than 150 courses each year on the business, cultures, demography, economics, history, languages, law, literatures, politics, and public policy of the region. Regional strengths include Russia, Ukraine, Central Europe (especially Poland, Czechia, and the Slovak Republic), Southeastern Europe (notably former Yugoslavia), the Caucasus (particularly Armenia), and Central Asia. CREES offers an interdisciplinary undergraduate major, a specialization in the MIRS master’s degree, and a graduate certificate. CREES also organizes an exciting public events series each year and administers a range of student and faculty funding opportunities.

The CREES Endowment was established in 1987 with a challenge grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The endowment supports faculty and student travel grants, visiting lecturers, conferences, special courses, and other regionally-specific projects.

We seek to build endowments that help support internships, faculty and student travel, visiting lecturers, and special courses on the region. Gifts to CREES help to ensure the center’s ongoing excellence and guarantee that U-M students will have an opportunity to study the cultures, histories, languages, and peoples of Eastern Europe, Russia, Ukraine, Central Asia, and the Caucasus and contribute to future scholarship in the field.

Contributions will be added to an existing endowed fund, and distributions from the Fund will be made in accordance with the University’s then existing endowment distribution policy and used and administered as provided in the documents establishing the Fund.

The Regents of the University of Michigan has 501(c)(3) non-profit tax-exempt status. Federal tax ID number: 38-6006309
