Nuclear Outreach Projects
This Giving Blueday, support hands-on outreach projects that will introduce prospective students to nuclear engineering through engaging, tangible experiences. Funds raised will support the purchase of materials for two interactive student-built projects that make abstract nuclear concepts visible and approachable.
The projects include: Project Aurora, a Peltier-cooled cloud chamber that visualizes ionizing radiation, and Project Helios-C, a cylindrical DC plasma discharge device that allows students to see plasma firsthand. These projects will be used in outreach activities for engineering students across campus, offering non-nuclear engineering students an opportunity to explore nuclear themes in a welcoming, hands-on way.
M-Atomics, the University’s first nuclear-focused student projects team, will lead these outreach efforts. M-Atomics was created to address a gap in experiential learning within the nuclear engineering curriculum and to respond to growing interest in areas such as nuclear fusion and small modular reactors.
Your support will help NERS and M-Atomics create engaging learning opportunities for Michigan undergrads to introduce them to complex nuclear concepts early in their academic careers.
Thanks to a generous gift from Jim Fici, all gifts to Nuclear Engineering & Radiological Sciences will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $2,500.
