The U-M Arts Initiative works to make the arts central to the University’s identity and mission—advancing excellence in teaching, research, and service. We expand access to the arts on campus and beyond, activate creativity in student learning, and integrate the arts across disciplines.
Art Outta Town takes students beyond Ann Arbor to experience arts and culture in cities across the region. Passport to the Arts invites students to explore performances, exhibitions, and creative spaces on campus and throughout Ann Arbor. Student Mini Grants (SMG), a signature program of the Arts Initiative, provides direct funding for student-led arts projects; over the past fifteen years, SMG has awarded more than $400,000 in support of 1,000+ creative endeavors.
Together, these programs spark creativity, collaboration, and discovery—helping make U-M a premier destination for emerging and established artists alike. Learn more at arts.umich.edu.
