The Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives (OAMI) at the University of Michigan supports and promotes academic excellence, leadership development, and multicultural understanding through innovative programs, services, and initiatives. We empower students to achieve their full potential, celebrate their unique backgrounds and experiences, and enrich the campus community.
We envision a university where every student feels a true sense of belonging, is fully supported, and is prepared to lead in an ever-changing world. Through strong partnerships with campus, government, and community organizations, we ensure students have the resources they need to thrive. Our work develops leaders, cultivates connection, builds resilience, and expands opportunity so that students graduate not only with a degree, but with the confidence, skills, and perspective to create meaningful change.
Our core areas of focus include: fostering environments that affirm students’ identities, reinforce their strengths, build confidence, and sustain them through challenges; prioritizing the holistic growth of every student, academically, socially, and personally; and creating pathways for students to lead, contribute, and thrive.
