About Wolverine Essentials
Wolverine Essentials is deeply committed to breaking down the barriers that UM-Flint students face. We strive to provide timely, comprehensive, and accessible services that meet their basic needs—whether it’s food, clothing, housing, hygiene items, wellness resources or critical support. Through personalized, targeted case management, we ensure that every student has the resources they need to overcome challenges and thrive academically and personally. Our mission is to create an inclusive, empowering environment where all students have the opportunity to succeed, no matter their circumstances.
Why Support Wolverine Essentials?
According to a Basic Needs survey of all UM-Flint students in Fall 2024, 41% of students reported housing security issues and 38% reported food insecurity.
Of the students who used Wolverine Essentials during the 2023-2024 school year:
- 60% reported medium to high stress related to food security
- 77% reported high financial stress
- 40% were in households that received some type of state assistance/benefits
- 61% were Pell-eligible
- Combined for over 1950 visits to Wolverine Essentials
