The Environmental Interpretive Center's (EIC) mission is to promote a healthy and sustainable environment for all. Situated amid a sea of concrete, the EIC's natural area is an island of green that is truly an oasis for birds and other animals. Over 200 bird species have been seen on our grounds and approximately 130 of those are migrant stopovers. As part of EIC research, we've learned that some of these migrants, such as the Red-eyed Vireos, travel as much 36,000 miles over multiple migration periods! Our green oasis plays a critical role in maintaining a stopover for local and migrating birds.
Your generous gift will help:
- Minimize the cost of the large amount of bird seed that fills our bird feeders outside the EIC building.
- Support our interpretive and bird watching programs, including the nationally renowned Birding by Ear and Beyond program.
- Provide opportunities for student artists and engineers to create a more accessible and creative bird observation room.
- Increase the quantity and diversity of pollinators that are vital to a healthy oasis.
- Provide momentum for student-led programs, such as Protecting Aviary Travel (PAT) that aims to reduce bird collisions with human-made structures.
Birds are nature’s musicians - support their songs and visit the EIC to hear their free concerts!
