Who Are We?
The Michigan Synthetic Biology Team is the only entirely student run research and engineering design team in the biological sciences. We develop and execute our own research projects in the area of synthetic biology. Students have the opportunity to gain hands on experience in conducting scientific research, running a laboratory, engineering novel biological systems, fundraising, public outreach, leadership, and working as part of a multidisciplinary team. Every year, the team competes in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) jamboree competition in Paris, France. This year our work focuses on developing targeted cancer therapeutics using the principles of synthetic biology!
We are extremely proud to have been awarded a Gold Medal at iGEM 2022 and iGEM 2023, and a silver medal at iGEM 2024, as well as have been nominated for best undergraduate diagnostics project at iGEM 2023 and best sustainable development project at iGEM 2024.

What does your donation mean to us?
As an undergraduate research organization, our members work hard to acquire independent funding. We rely on the support from people like you to make our unique research experience possible. Donations will directly fund this year's research project benefiting our team of 30 undergraduate students.
All donations will go towards:
- registering for the iGEM competition ($8500 to compete and attend)
- purchasing the resources necessary to run our experiments ($3000 per year)
- hosting outreach events in our Ann Arbor community ($100-300 per year)
- travelling to Paris to present our findings at the 2023 iGEM jamboree ($3500 per member)
Donations of any size have the ability to empower us to achieve our research goals this year, and allow us to send more members to our competition. Please consider donating to our team!
