The FIRST Alumni and Mentor's Network at Michigan (FAMNM) is a student organization at the University of Michigan College of Engineering that aims to support and foster local K-12 STEM robotics programs conducted through FIRST, the international nonprofit organization. FAMNM supports K-12 robotics programs through mentorship, volunteering at local competitions, and hosting on-campus (and virtual!) workshops and events. We aim to provide an avenue for Engineering students at the University of Michigan to impress the things they've learned onto a future generation of K-12 STEM students, and encourage K-12 STEM students to consider pursuing higher education in a STEM related field.
Alumni make up a significant portion of FIM volunteers, and FAMNM’s contribution to this group helps ensure the success of events in the largest FIRST district. By covering some of the costs associated with volunteering with events, we are able to make this experience accessible to more students, and further increase the FIRST volunteer base.
