About

The United Asian American Medical Student Association (UAAMSA) at the University of Michigan Medical School aims to support the health care and community needs of patients, students, and medical professionals in greater Southeast Michigan. In addition to hosting cultural events and dedicated outreach to the Asian American community, our efforts culminate in a student-run annual health fair.

As a chapter of the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA), we are dedicated not only to enhancing health care services and education but also to fostering connections and strengthening the bonds of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) with and within the community.

Our past initiatives include:

  • Participating in the National APAMSA Conferences
  • Organizing mentorship lunches with faculty members
  • Hosting a panel featuring private practice physicians
  • Participating in community health outreach events
  • Conducting annual health fairs for the benefit of our community and students

The primary focus of our annual health fair is to support the local Asian-American community, with its services open to any interested members of the community. Our key objective is to provide free health screenings, consultations with physicians, and culturally-sensitive health education for uninsured or under-insured individuals, as well as those with limited health care access.

The scheduled health screenings encompass blood pressure, BMI, A1c, and lipid assessments, along with complimentary consultations with physicians, all aimed at benefiting the local community.

Our mission is to raise awareness of current health conditions, and offer education on vital topics such as insurance, cancer screenings, and local community resources. We aspire to empower patients with the knowledge needed to make informed health decisions and facilitate their access to regular medical care.

UAAMSA's purpose is to address the needs of the AAPI community within the medical school, and promote awareness of the AAPI community among the broader medical school community. We are dedicated to enhancing inclusion, increasing diversity, and advancing equity at the medical school and in the community.

Your donations to UAAMSA will support the necessary supplies for our annual health fair and our ability to host smaller health and cultural events this year. Any funds above our goal will be put to use as need arises. We are very appreciative of your generosity!
