Gifts to Sailing contribute to...
The Michigan Sailing Team has a roster of 54 sailors, some highly experienced, some who are new to sailing, and many who fall somewhere between. Our team is led by our seven Executive Board members who manage team operations. We compete in 1-3 regattas per weekend in the fall and winter. Our fall season begins as soon as the fall semester starts and ends in early November. We get back on the water in February for our Spring Break Training, then our spring season begins in March and continues through the end of the semester.
Our mission is to provide opportunities for any student to sail while positively representing the University of Michigan across a wide range of competitive sailing events.
We are seeking funding for a full-time head coach. We need $200,000 to fund the position in the short term, with an ultimate goal of a $1 million endowment to secure the role in perpetuity.
Each year, it becomes more difficult to compete with the ever-growing number of fully-funded varsity programs. Club teams like ours are consistently out-recruited and out-developed by East Coast varsity programs. A full-time coaching staff provides longitudinal, consistent development of the team that would help us close the gap to our competition and be competitive at the national level, but without outside support, we will be unable to both fulfill our mission while remaining financially viable.
Please Note: Gifts to endowed funds will be administered as permanent endowment under Michigan law and University policies; excess distributions may be added to the principal for reinvestment or used later for the purpose(s) for which the fund was established.
