Gifts to Fencing contribute to...
Michigan Fencing is a student-run organization that strives to provide a place for competition, dedication, and fun for our members. We are one of the only club sports that accepts athletes of all levels throughout the year. Some of our fencers have years of experience, have trained with private coaches, and competed on the national level. Others had never touched a weapon before their first practice here at Michigan. We welcome all kinds of fencers and provide both a stress-free learning environment for beginners as well as a challenging competitive environment for experienced fencers.
Our travel squad consistently places in the top five clubs in the nation and competes on par with many Division I varsity squads. All members are welcome to travel, and many first-time fencers go on to represent the university on our travel squad. In 2025, our club placed 3rd in the nation.
We are seeking $25,000 in funds to buy more equipment and gear, specifically new lamés and jackets, and increase the number of tournaments we can attend.
Our club's membership is expanding, and with the current amount of gear we have, it is hard to accommodate everyone who needs to use club gear. In an effort to be inclusive, we would like to increase our inventory, so those resources are available to our fencers.
Increasing the number of tournaments we attend will also allow more fencers to travel as each tournament only allows a certain number of fencers to participate. We're very excited about the growing participation and interest in our sport, but with that comes additional costs that we are hoping to fundraise for through this event.
The immediate impact would be new gear and equipment for this year, allowing more of our current fencers to use club gear. Additionally, fencing gear lasts for years if taken care of properly, so our purchase this year would benefit the club for years to come. If we reach our goal, we'll be able to build a strong foundation for the club to continue to grow and compete for many years.
