U-M Faculty Undergraduate Scholarship

Fifteen years ago, the Faculty Senate established the U-M Faculty Undergraduate Scholarship. The scholarship is a unique way for the university’s faculty to directly support the undergraduate students who give this university so much of its vitality and mission. The scholarship is based on financial need and academic merit, offering a world-class education to students despite the obstacles that might otherwise block their path. It rotates annually among the university’s three campuses and currently supports four undergraduate students, with renewable scholarships of $3,000 for up to four years.

This year, the Faculty Senate aims to bring renewed attention to this scholarship and grow its endowment. Your contribution would allow us to award deserving students a larger award, and ultimately, increase the number of students the scholarship supports. We hope to raise $75,000—about $10 per member of the Faculty Senate—to increase the number of scholarship recipients this year. Join us in making the university more accessible.

History

The Senate Assembly approved the creation of the Faculty Undergraduate Scholarship on December 18, 2006. The scholarship was funded on May 28, 2007 through the contributions of U-M faculty.

The Faculty Undergraduate Scholarship is facilitated by the University of Michigan Financial Aid Office. Students on all three UM campuses are eligible to apply and are selected based on their need. Currently, the scholarship rotates each year to focus on one of the university's three campuses, with two students from that campus selected for the award.

With sufficient funds gained through your help, additional student recipients from all three campuses could be selected each year.

*Please Note: Gifts to endowed funds will be administered as permanent endowment under Michigan law and University policies; excess distributions may be added to the principal for reinvestment or used later for the purpose(s) for which the fund was established.
