Bangladeshi Student Association

The Bangladeshi Students Association (BSA) at the University of Michigan is dedicated to promoting awareness, appreciation, and celebration of Bangladeshi culture and heritage across campus. We aim to showcase underrepresented Bengali traditions, stories, and art forms while creating an inclusive community where students of all backgrounds can connect, learn, and engage. Our organization hosts a range of cultural, educational, and social events that encourage cross cultural understanding and foster belonging, most notably through events like Desi Night Lights, which celebrates South Asian identity and unity within the broader Michigan community.

Beyond celebrating culture, BSA is deeply committed to supporting the wellbeing and success of all students. We recognize that the university experience can come with unexpected financial hardships, ranging from emergency travel and medical costs to food insecurity and housing challenges, that can significantly affect students’ academic and personal lives. As a student organization that values compassion, community, and collective resilience, we are proud to fundraise for the LSA Student Emergency Support Fund, which provides immediate aid to students facing sudden financial difficulties.

Our decision to support this fund stems from our belief that no student should have to compromise their education or wellbeing due to unforeseen circumstances. This cause resonates strongly within our community, as many of our members and peers, especially those from international and first generation backgrounds, understand the challenges of navigating financial uncertainty while pursuing higher education far from home. By rallying our members, alumni, and friends, we hope to inspire small but meaningful contributions that can collectively make a significant difference in the lives of fellow Wolverines.

Through this initiative, BSA seeks not only to raise funds but also to raise awareness about the importance of mutual support and community care on campus. We view this campaign as an opportunity to extend our organization’s values beyond cultural celebration, to embody empathy, solidarity, and the true Michigan spirit of leaders and best.
