Arriba Peru

Arriba Perú! is a student-led cultural organization at the University of Michigan that celebrates Peruvian heritage through community-based events, traditional dance, cuisine, and rich cultural traditions. We are committed to fostering a supportive space and creating a home away from home for Peruvian students on campus. One of our main goals as a student organisation is to give back to our community through global engagement which aligns with the mission of the Global Initiatives Program Gift Fund. We strive to give back to our community by hosting a service trip for a week and a half in June in partnership with a non-profit organisation known as Ayudando Abrigando. This will enable Peruvian students to become more in touch with their roots whilst also helping extend the mission of a non-profit meant to assist and equip indigenous communities with essential resources. The Global Initiatives Gift Fund, similarly allows students and staff to serve global underprivileged communities and promote global health and overall equity. Ultimately, Arriba Peru’s passion for serving a community extends beyond serving the country of Peru to enabling other individuals to serve their own communities and people. The principles of service and care are rooted in the work we aspire to do as well as in our reason for forming our organisation.
