About

About: This Giving Tuesday, support the Career Enhancement Fund and create life-changing opportunities for student media at Michigan. Your gift today will help a student attend a national conference and learn from alumni and industry leaders—an experience that can transform their career and ripple across The Daily, Ensian, Gargoyle, and SHEI.

The Career Enhancement Fund is a cornerstone of our Year of Life-Changing Education initiative at the University of Michigan. Your gift today will help a student attend a national conference and learn from alumni and industry leaders—an experience that can transform their career and ripple across The Daily, Ensian, Gargoyle, and SHEI. This fund supports the students who bring to life these publications—providing them with the resources to turn classroom learning into real-world impact. Through your generosity, students can:

  • Accept low and unpaid internships that shape their careers
  • Learn directly from alumni and visiting professionals who share their expertise
  • Attend conventions and workshops across the country to engage with peers and industry leaders

The average cost to send one student to a conference is $1,200, covering registration, travel, and lodging. These experiences are transformative—not only for the student who attends, but for their teammates in the newsroom, business office, and creative staff. Each opportunity sparks a ripple effect that strengthens the entire Student Publications community. This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to be part of that ripple. With your gift to the Career Enhancement Fund, you’ll empower one more student to pursue life-changing opportunities that shape their futures and elevate Michigan’s legacy of student media.

Hear From Our Students:

Rami M. "Being at the ProCon college journalism conference in New York City was an incredibly enriching and educational experience. Surrounded by energetic student journalists from all over the country, I learned a great deal about the changing media landscape and the significance of responsible reporting. The panels were incredibly interesting, with experienced professionals providing true-to-life anecdotes, pragmatic tips, and stimulating arguments about topics such as investigative reporting, diversity in the newsroom, and online storytelling."

Daniel J. "IRE was an incredible opportunity for me to connect with professionals in the industry and learn cutting-edge tools to bring back to the newsroom. Our section often speaks with sources who have undergone trauma, and these workshops were able to teach us trauma-informed reporting skills that will help us better protect our sources. The IRE community was very helpful, and this conference was a great introduction to the larger world of investigative journalism."

Matching Opportunity: Our fundraising this year includes an additional incentive. Through the University of Michigan, any recurring donation of $100 or less will be DOUBLED with matching funds for a whole year! That means your donation could go twice as far and help us give a student the life changing gift of education!
