By supporting the EGL Volunteer Abroad Fund, you will better equip EGL students to learn about cross-cultural leadership and solve complex, real-world problems across diverse communities.
The Engineering Global Leadership (EGL) Volunteer Abroad (VA) Program allows students in the College of Engineering to apply their technical and leadership skills in a cross-cultural context while directly serving communities around the world. Each summer, student teams partner with local organizations on projects that range from environmental conservation and sustainable infrastructure to education and public health.
In 2025, EGL students led four Volunteer Abroad trips to Grenada, Thailand, Montana, and Peru, partnering with local organizations on projects in marine conservation, wildlife protection, environmental restoration, and community development. These immersive experiences cultivate empathy, resilience, and cultural awareness—qualities that define globally minded Michigan Engineers.
Funds raised through this campaign directly subsidize travel and project costs, ensuring financial accessibility for all students, regardless of background. Donor support broadens participation, sustains long-term partnerships abroad, and strengthens EGL’s reputation for producing engineers who lead with cultural competence and social impact.
