The Michigan Mars Rover Team (MROVER) is a student-run multidisciplinary project team that builds a robot designed to traverse and investigate the surface of Mars. Our primary mission is to further the development of future engineers through hands-on experiences, and we achieve this by competing at the University Rover Challenge (URC) and the Canadian International Rover Challenge (CIRC).
We will use the funding that we receive to build a functioning Mars rover to compete at the University Rover Challenge. Most of the funding will be used to buy materials that go into the rover itself, such as aluminum, wiring, and 3D printing stock. We also cover software needs like licensing and the drone that we use for competition. Additionally, although we usually try to make as many of our parts in-house at the Wilson Center as possible, there are still some parts that must be bought, like cameras. Moreover, some of this money will be used to cover the costs of going to the competition itself, like registration fees and travel fees, so that the opportunity to compete is available to anyone regardless of financial background. We also hope to use the funding to plan outreach events for the local Ann Arbor community.
