Who We Are:
The Chem-E Car team is a diverse group of students designing and testing shoebox-sized cars powered by chemical reactions. We have two active cars: one powered by pressure from a chemical reaction, and the other using a battery/stopping mechanism. We're also in the midst of developing a new combustion reaction powered car! Right now, we are exploring new technologies for the upcoming regional competition, where we'll compete against 200+ schools for a spot at the national competition in Fall 2025. Your support will help us innovate and represent the University of Michigan at this prestigious event!
Last year, Chem-E Car placed 3rd and 4th at the AIChE regional competition with our pressure-powered and battery/stopping cars. This past fall, we placed 11th out of 51 cars competing from universities across the globe. Currently, we are developing new, innovative reactions and mechanisms to refine our cars for AIChE Regional Chem-E-Car Competition at the end of March.
The Chem-E-Car Team offers students the opportunity to apply their coursework to real-world challenges. As one of the few teams uniquely driven by chemical engineers, we play a crucial role in supporting and advancing engineering education. However, we welcome students of all majors, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can contribute. Through our competitions, we also raise awareness of the chemical engineering field and of its importance within the engineering community.
Why to Give:
To prepare for regional competition, we require funding for transportation, registration fees, building materials, chemicals, and more. We are committed to making this experience accessible to all students, covering the full costs for those who wish to attend, and ensuring that every team member gains valuable networking and hands-on engineering experience beyond what we are able to learn in a lab environment.
