The Department of Communication and Media aims to help people understand how media affects our social lives and public involvement. Media plays a huge role in American society and around the world, influencing every part of our lives. We focus on four main areas: how central media is to daily life, its enormous cultural influence, the way it shapes our identities, and its impact on democracy. By sharing the research and writing of our faculty and graduate students, we strive to boost public awareness of the media's influence. Over the past decade, we've gained national recognition by hiring top-notch faculty, attracting talented graduate students, and creating a challenging and popular undergraduate program. Our goal is to continue building on this success and become one of the top five departments in the U.S.
Gifts support bringing top scholars to the department to present to faculty and students, launching of new departmental initiatives, alumni engagement, special projects. These funds can also be applied to any area of the department for a critical need.
