About

The future of clean energy depends on the next generation. This fall, the University of Michigan’s Department of Nuclear Engineering & Radiological Sciences (NERS) and the Fastest Path to Zero Initiative will host the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) Global Forum Symposium on Nuclear Education, Science, Technology, and Policy. At the heart of this international gathering is the Young Professionals Programme, a dedicated platform for students and early career professionals to share their perspectives, build networks, and shape the future of nuclear education.

Young professionals bring energy, creativity, and urgency to the global clean energy transition. They are the ones who will design the next generation of nuclear technologies, lead community engagement efforts, and navigate complex policy landscapes. But to do so, they need access to global networks, mentorship, and opportunities to present their ideas on an international stage. That is what the Young Professionals Programme provides.

Over three days, more than 20 early-career participants from across the globe—including the United States, Canada, Spain, Kenya, Korea, Japan, India, and beyond—will engage directly with leaders in academia, government, and industry. They will present their research at a poster session, contribute to international working group discussions, and share their perspectives during panels on workforce development and the future of nuclear education. These interactions not only amplify young voices but also help decision-makers hear directly from the rising generation whose careers will be shaped by today’s choices.

Donations to this campaign will support the success of the Young Professionals Programme and the Global Forum open sessions. By supporting this effort, you are investing directly in the future of the nuclear workforce. You are helping young professionals build lifelong international networks, gain exposure to global leaders, and bring fresh, innovative perspectives to one of the most pressing challenges of our time: ensuring clean, sustainable energy for all.
