LaVerne Ann McCombs (January 17, 1945 – October 22, 2024) served as a Lecturer for the Social Work Department since 1986 and taught many courses, including SWR 100 - Introduction to Social Work, SWR 320 - Death Dying and Bereavement, and SWR 338 - Social Work and the Aged. In recent years, she also served as the Practicum Liaison and the instructor of SWR 360 - Integrated Field Seminar and SWR 460/461 - Field Instruction to facilitate and support students' learning in practicum.
LaVerne was very proud to be a well-loved teacher and adored her students. She was a fierce advocate for UM-Flint social work students and cared deeply for her students' well-being and success. She was a central part of the UM-Flint Social Work Department, and her legacy will continue to inspire us for many years to come.
